Civic Update

Time Posted on June 04, 2010 User ChargeCar Team

We are making progress on the conversion of our 2006 Honda Civic. The engine and associated components were removed by Baum Boulevard Automotive, for a net weight removal of about 310 pounds. An AC-31 motor/controller (Curtis 1238-7501) was ordered from Thunderstruck EV, along with the Curtis controller programmer and pot box and Tyco LEV200 500A contactor. The motor was shipped to the Electric Car Company in Utah, who will make the motor-transmission adapter. We also obtained a Toyota MR2 electrohydraulic pump to replace the belt-driven power steering pump. Other components have been ordered, including various meters, a current shunt, charging connector, and a 5000 BTU/hour cabin heater element. Upcoming in the next two weeks, we'll be using mock-ups of all the components which will be placed in the Civic to block out the layout, at which point we'll be ready to finalize the internals of the car and hopefully have it rolling soon.
